Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force & Kenya Navy Recruitment

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are the armed forces of Kenya comprised of Kenya Army, Kenya Airforce, and Kenya Navy. General requirements, prospective candidates who wish to enlist must be Kenyan citizens, aged between 18-26 years, should be physically and medically fit according to KDF standards, have no criminal record, minimum height 5ft 3in (5' 3"), minimum weight for men 54.55 & 50 kg for women, and females candidates must not be pregnant. You should also have good vision, hearing, and proper dental hygiene (no cavities or missing teeth).

Kenya Defence Forces Rookies

Young Kenyans in general, are given the opportunity to join Kenya Defence Forces to train as Servicemen and Servicewomen. A mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE is required for recruitment in this category. The Government's Ministry of Defence and the Military announces the recruitment to the general public through the media and interested persons present themselves at the venue on the set date for the recruitment exercise. Candidates are then arranged according to where they come from, their documents are verified, physical and medical checks are done and after engaging in a long exhausting race, those who emerge the best are selected and recruited to train as Constables in the armed forces.

Kenya Defence Forces recruit young Kenyan scholars with outstanding academic achievements to train as General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets. Candidates who wish to apply as Cadets are required to have high grades in KCSE (minimum B plain) with a minimum subject grade of C+ (plus) in English, Mathematics, and any one of the Pure Sciences: Biology, Chemistry & Physics. The initial training for this category covers 03 continuous years leading to a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies on successful completion.

Professionals are recruited into Kenya Defence Forces for training to become Specialist Officers. Those who wish to join KDF in this category must be University Graduates with minimum 02 years work experience and should also be registered with the relevant statutory bodies. Speciality openings include Pathologists, Medical Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists, Nurses, Public Health Officers, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Meteorologists, Nutritionists, Clinical Psychologists, Lawyers, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Electrical Technicians, Mechanical Engineers, Marine Engineers, Civil and Structural Engineers, Education Officers, IT Specialists, Chaplains, Imams, and Journalists.

Qualified skilled Artisans and Technicians can be recruited into Kenya Defence Forces to train as Tradesmen and Tradeswomen. Candidates applying as Technicians must have a mean grade of C (plain) in KCSE, a relevant diploma or above from a recognized institution and be registered with the relevant statutory body where applicable. Those applying as Artisans are required to have a mean grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE and have either a relevant certificate with Government Trade Test Grade III or Craft III from a recognized institution.

Former Kenyan soldiers not older than 52 years can get back into military service as Kenya Defence Forces Constabularies. They must be ex-armed forces servicemen or women in the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force or Kenya Navy with a Discharge Certificate of Minimum "Very Good" in conduct and must have served at least 03 or 09 years color service.
